Indian Summer - Apple Appeal - Picking days
Sep 01, 2023
As September starts, we are enjoying a blast of late summer heat and sunshine – the orchard is a particularly pleasant place to be at this time, the smell of ripening fruit, the odd thump as an apple drops to the floor – all signalling that pressing time is virtually upon us!
Our annual Apple Appeal launches this month – local folk dropping sacks of apples at the cidery door in exchange for cider. This is the fundamental ethos of Bignose & Beardy – transforming what would otherwise have been waste fruit into great cider.
Apple picking days will be back next month for club members and friends. On these days we meet at a hidden gem of an orchard – one of which is at a nicely maintained ‘garden’ orchard near Sheffield Park, another a large ex market garden orchard slowly being rescued from the undergrowth north of Uckfield and the third an ancient historic community orchard just over the border into Kent at Standen.
These are fun, family orientated and dog friendly days, picnicking in the long grass, all washed down with a few glasses of our finest fermentations! You are very welcome to join us.
If you would like to come along, book your place via the events page on our website or drop us an email enquiries@bignoseandbeardy.com and we will provide details and directions.
Friday 1st September saw our final Tap Room for Summer 2023 – we were joined by around 150 cider lovers for a great night of live music, late summer sunshine, toasted sandwiches from our friends at ‘Serial Grillers’ and plenty of fabulous ciders around the fire pit into the late evening under the twinkling lights between the trees – we love these events! Here’s to next year!
