Our Ciders

Current Batches

Hollowman

Style: Medium, Real Cider.
Strength: 6.4% ABV.
Year: 2017.
Attributes: Certified Gluten Free, Unfiltered, Unfined, Vegan, Vegetarian.
Allergens: Sulphites.

This batch took its time coming round. Annual tastings left us underwhelmed and we weren’t sure what to do with it, so we just let it be. Five winters have passed since then and it has mellowed at last. A reminder that after apples, time is our most important ingredient, smooth, crisp and complex.

Standen Deliver

Style: Medium, Real Cider.
Strength: 6.8% ABV.
Year: 2020.
Attributes: Certified Gluten Free, Unfiltered, Unfined, Vegan, Vegetarian.
Allergens: Sulphites.

Many hardy people braved wind and rain to harvest the apples in this batch at Standen Community Orchard Association’s Apple Day. We swapped apples for cider and used the unusual varieties to produce this complex, very drinkable cider.

10% of sales from this batch go to maintain and preserve this wonderful community resource.

Dabinett SV

Style: Medium Dry, Real Cider.
Strength: 6.2% ABV.
Year: 2019.
Attributes: Certified Gluten Free, Unfiltered, Unfined, Vegan, Vegetarian.
Allergens: Sulphites.
This single variety pressing of Dabinett apples from Quarry Farm does not disappoint. The deep tannins from this cider variety bring woody smokiness with a long apple finish.

Shepherd's Gold

Shepherds gold
Style: Medium, Real Cider.
Strength: 6.2% ABV.
Year: 2019.
Attributes: Certified Gluten Free, Unfiltered, Unfined, Vegan, Vegetarian.
Allergens: Sulphites.

With a nod to the orchards that provided most of the fruit, Shepherd's Gold is a homely mix of cookers and eaters from Little Shepherds and Little Goldsmiths Farm (plus a few from Alex the Vet) all in our parish. Long matured it has a clean crisp mouth feel softened with sweet apple tones.

Turning Japanese

(Available to Cider Club members only)

Turning Japanese
Style: Medium, Real Pear Cider.
Strength: 6.3% ABV.
Year: 2019.
Attributes: Certified Gluten Free, Unfiltered, Unfined, Vegan, Vegetarian.
Allergens: Sulphites.
Our friend Jenni lets us pick her orchard in Horam. The Japanese Pears seem to have every other year off. We picked some in 2019 and pressed a small batch with Conference pears and Bramley apples to reprise the popular Turning Japanese. Crisp acidity, funky notes and peary overtones.

Cheeky Mick

(Available to Cider Club members only)

Cheeky Mick Cider
Style: Medium, Real Cider.
Strength: 6.4% ABV.
Year: 2019.
Attributes: Certified Gluten Free, Unfiltered, Unfined, Vegan, Vegetarian.
Allergens: Sulphites.
A mix of Spartan and unknown eating apples collected on a picking day with friends at Mick Scrace’s orchard, along with a dash of Dabinet from Quarry Farm. It is an easy drinker, light and crisply acidic with no edges and a long soft finish. Perfect for a warm summer evening with friends.

Remains of the Day

Style: Dry, Real Cider.
Strength: 5.8% ABV.
Year: 2017.
Attributes: Certified Gluten Free, Unfiltered, Unfined, Vegan, Vegetarian.
Allergens: Sulphites.

Back in 2017 we mixed Blenheim Orange from Laurel Tree Farm, cookers from Mick Scrace’s orchard and the last of the villagers gifted fruit, to go into oak barrels. With more juice than barrels we put aside the leftovers and forgot all about it - those extra years maturing have created something special. Light, floral, oaky and refreshingly astringent, delivering layers of apple fruit and skins and finishing with a lingering memory of those Blenheim Oranges.

Boar's Back

(Available to Cider Club members only)

Boars Back Cider
Style: Medium Sweet, Real Cider.
Strength: 6.3% ABV.
Year: 2019.
Attributes: Certified Gluten Free, Unfiltered, Unfined, Vegan, Vegetarian.
Allergens: Sulphites.
An extremely drinkable mix of Cox and Bramley apples from Laurel Tree farm at Boars Head, topped off with Dabinet from Quarry Farm. There's a lot going on: crisp acidity gives way to sweetness and a mellow tannin finish. Lots of funky notes to spark your interest and the slow maturation lends a soft butteryness. Apple peel, sweet apple flesh, chewy apple core, it’s all here.

Green Man

(Available to Cider Club members only)

Green Man 2018

Style: Medium, Real Cider.
Strength: 6.5% ABV.
Year: 2018.
Attributes: Certified Gluten Free, Unfiltered, Unfined, Vegan, Vegetarian.
Allergens: Sulphites.

We took John O Prince, and Spartans from Greenway Farm just down the road and mixed them with Cookers from Mick Scrace’s reclaimed orchard. The result is a light, clean,  green appley cider that has softened delightfully with age.

A bit of OMFF

(Available to Cider Club members only)

Style: Medium, Real Cider.
Strength: 7% ABV.
Year: 2018.
Attributes: Certified Gluten Free, Unfiltered, Unfined, Vegan, Vegetarian.
Allergens: Sulphites.

A hodgepodge of apples swapped for cider from orchards and gardens around the village. Picked and pressed with friends. We've no idea which varieties go in to this, yet every year OMFF echo's previous batches.  Smooth, full flavoured with clean acid tones: our signature cider. Dedicated to our children; Oscar, Margot, Felix and Freddie.

Bonnie Prince

(Available to Cider Club members only)

Style: Medium Sweet, Real Cider.
Strength: 7.5% ABV.
Year: 2018.
Attributes: Certified Gluten Free, Unfiltered, Unfined, Vegan, Vegetarian.
Allergens: Sulphites.

A fiesty batch this. The fermentation went on and on and when the sun shone it blew the lid right off the tank. A mix of John O Prince, Breaburn and Spartan from Greenway Farm and Scrace Cookers have produced a strong, refreshing crisp green cider with notes of Granny Smith sweet and sharp.

Cockhaisy

Style: Dry, Real Cider.
Strength: 6.8% ABV.
Year: 2018.
Attributes: Certified Gluten Free, Unfiltered, Unfined, Vegan, Vegetarian.
Allergens: Sulphites.

We took cider apples from the back orchard at Cockhaise Mill Farm and blended them with eaters to give a pleasing dry with plenty of complex notes. After the picking we picnicked with Roger and Cathy and friends from the Cider Club right on the edge of the Bluebell Railway while steam trains whistled by.

Last Pear
(Available to Cider Club members only)

Style: Medium, Real Perry.
Strength: 6.8% ABV.
Year: 2018.
Attributes: Certified Gluten Free, Unfiltered, Unfined, Vegan, Vegetarian.
Allergens: Sulphites.

Dom and Cassie found two ancient pear trees among their apples: the last of their kind. Hard to pick, hard to press but exploding with juice. We blended them with conference pears and left them for even longer than usual. We’ll take cuttings from those trees and hope for more.

Discrace
(Available to Cider Club members only)

Style: Medium, Real Cider.
Strength: 6.9% ABV.
Year: 2018.
Attributes: Certified Gluten Free, Unfiltered, Unfined, Vegan, Vegetarian.
Allergens: Sulphites.
Our good friend Mick Scrace bought an abandoned orchard of 3000 neglected trees by accident. Through battle with the undergrowth and thinning of dense tangled branches, this fabulous little corner of Sussex is fast coming back into production. His windfall cookers provide the acid tones to all our Eastern Counties style ciders. Blended here with Cox apples from Orchard Farm for a pleasingly smooth green appleyness, softened with mellow spice tones. Naturally clear, uncarbonated, unpasteurised, wild fermented and slow matured.

Spartan
(Available to Cider Club members only)

Style: Dry, Real Cider.
Strength: 6.7% ABV.
Year: 2018.
Attributes: Certified Gluten Free, Unfiltered, Unfined, Vegan, Vegetarian.
Allergens: Sulphites.
At seasons end, we collected a final load of cider apples from Quarry Farm near Battle. They were soft and pulpy - we lost as many as we pressed. Despite frustration, the resulting rich umber colours promise all the tannin fullness you’d expect from Dabinett and Michelin apples balanced with some of Mick Scrace’s cookers for acidity and Spartan for sweetness. Naturally clear, uncarbonated, unpasteurised, wild fermented and slow matured.

Oakhaisy
(Available to Cider Club members only)

Style: Dry, Real Cider.
Strength: 6.7% ABV.
Year: 2015.
Attributes: Certified Gluten Free, Unfiltered, Unfined, Vegan, Vegetarian.
Allergens: Sulphites.

We pressed a batch of cider and dessert apples from Cockhaise Mill Farm back in 2015 and come the summer, well, it hadn’t had enough time yet. So we poured it into old oak barrels and let it sit. The result shows that sometimes patience is the most important ingredient. Bursting with deep rich tannins over a fresh acidic base, the apple tones balance beautifully with the oak.

Boars Head
(Available to Cider Club members only)

Style: Medium, Real Cider.
Strength: 6.5% ABV.
Year: 2017.
Attributes: Certified Gluten Free, Unfiltered, Unfined, Vegan, Vegetarian.
Allergens: Sulphites.
In the High Weald near the end of the Spa Valley Railway lies Laurel Tree Farm. This blend of Cherry Cox, Howgate Wonder and Dabinett is clean and rounded and perfect for sunny evenings. Naturally clear, uncarbonated, unpasteurised, wild fermented and slow matured.

Terrible Shepherd
(Available to Cider Club members only)

Style: Medium Sweet, Real Cider.
Strength: 6.9% ABV.
Year: 2018.
Attributes: Certified Gluten Free, Unfiltered, Unfined, Vegan, Vegetarian.
Allergens: Sulphites.
A shepherd strength mix of Dabinet and Michelin from Quarry Farm at Battle, with Cox, Spartan and Bramley from Little Shepherds, along with all number of varieties from Terrible Down. Picked late in the autumn sunshine. We’d almost missed the cider fruit: we got it so late it was pretty soft and pulpy. Yet it’s still gives a rich tannin depth and mouth feel to balance a clean acidity, the whole thing rounded off by an interesting smokiness. Naturally clear, uncarbonated, unpasteurised, wild fermented and slow matured.

Oast Toast
(Available to Cider Club members only)

Style: Medium, Real Cider
Strength: 6.7% ABV
Attributes: Certified Gluten Free, Unfiltered, Unfined, Vegan, Vegetarian.
Allergens: Sulphites.
A mix of Cox and Bramley with a touch of Red Gloss from the orchards of Oast Fruit Farm in Buxted. We pressed this on the last glorious sun-filled day of the autumn, perhaps there’s a hint of that in the sweet tangy finish. Naturally clear, uncarbonated, unpasteurised, wild fermented and slow matured.
