Description

A single batch case of 2022 Cockhaisy.

We pick the apples from Cockhaise Mill Farm in sight and hearing of the steam trains of the Bluebell railway. Arriving early on a Sunday morning, we set our the picking tubs and pranking poles and wait for our picking day volunteers to join us. We pick all morning and into the afternoon (after a hot sausage lunch (with Cider)).

Well established and properly looked after we always manage to gather enough fruit for a batch of Cockhaisy - some years there is so much fruit we can make two.

This batch contains cider apples from the back orchard  blended with a range of eaters from the front orchard, which have been left an appropriately long time to mature after fully fermenting out to give a pleasing dry with plenty of complex notes and a long finish.

This a such a reliable standard for us - we only ever present it as s dry because it needs nothing adding just 100% pure juice and time. Best served chilled and consumed at the edge of the orchard as the trains whistle by.

Orchard Notes

Cockhaise Mill Farm

These apples come from Roger and Cathy's two small orchards, which host one of our picking days most years. They inherited the orchards when they moved into this beautiful home and garden that butts against the Bluebell railway. At first they considered grubbing up the old trees having no way to use all the apples produced. However, introduced via facebook we have formed a partnership that is a decade old. The trees are here to stay and one orchard has even been extended.

The orchards are well established possibly planted more than two generations ago and likely once much larger. Now they contain a balanced range of cooking apples, eating apples and even cider varieties. Well looked after and serviced by resident honey bees, the trees continue to produce most years providing us with the perfect blend of fruit. We make a batch every year and add nothing to it: serving it as a reliably balanced dry cider.

Delivery Information

We ship orders on Tuesdays and Thursdays but please allow up to seven days for delivery once you have ordered. This is because we only work on the Bignose & Beardy part time as we have other jobs the rest of the week. Often we can get an order out quicker, but we can't guarantee it.

Deliveries must be signed for by a person aged 18 or over. Drivers operate a challenge 25 policy: if you appear under 25 you will be asked for photo ID.

If you live really nearby to us in postcode areas (TN22 1,2,4,5) we'll deliver to you for free. Just place your order and if your postcode qualifies free shipping will automatically be added to your order. If you end up paying for shipping by accident we'll refund the shipping and still deliver for free. What's not to love?!

Local customers, select the pick up option on check out to avoid paying delivery charges on this order. You can collect from the Cidery on Fridays or at other times by appointment.

We work with a neighbouring business to ship our goods (as they can get better prices than we can - being bigger than us). The shipping cost is based on the total weight of your order and is automatically calculated at checkout. We can ship most products (up to 20kg) for £10.00 to the UK. Some of our products are lighter and so cost less. It can make sense to add an item to your order to make the most of the shipping costs:
